The 2021 NFL Draft…

Last night, the NFL opened their doors and allowed their teams to pick the missing links to make a super bowl team… The amount of analytics on each draftee is absolutely amazing but often leads to a dead end road… Names like Heath Shuler (3rd pick in 1994), Ryan Leaf (2nd pick in 1998) and JaMarcus Russel (1st pick in 2007) make you ponder how could they be so wrong …  BUT then you have a guy picked #199 overall in the 2000 draft and he develops into the GOAT (Tom Brady of course)…

For the first time in many years, Team KW had to DRAFT new team members… in growing the team, what has stuck in my head is from the movie “Miracle” about the 1980 USA Hockey team… At the initial tryouts, Coach Brooks talks about not selecting the “Best/Most Talented Players” but THE RIGHT ONES… ones that will FIT the system and culture he was trying to build to create a successful team… and from what I recall, IT WORKED…

Team KW has a specific system and a culture where only the RIGHT ONES stay… I’ll admit I have made some mistakes in drafting including what I thought was a super star… but was actually draft day BUST, only lasting 2 weeks… the recent new faces that have joined Team KW are embracing the Team KW culture and system… Martinez, Luis, Brock and Fernando are settling in nicely and are on the path to grow and strive to do better each day they are part of the team, which is what I ask of ALL Team KW members…

Another Free Lunch Friday was earned from the teams exceeding the efficiency rating that I set forth… I love acknowledging their efforts …

And even though it takes away from today’s efficiency rating, the teams took an hour this morning to organize their trucks and trailers, take inventory of tools and give the inside a quick clean… this effort insures the teams have what they need moving forward to keep them on the path of high efficiency…

and speaking of efficiency… I ask the teams all the time what tools can we get to make us better, faster or save our bodies… Brock this week quickly spoke up and mentioned this special curved blade for weeding… it’s on its way for a tryout… and maybe soon to be another tool in the Team KW tool box…

The sights of the week… in Team KW Land…

Let’s start off with a beautiful flowering NATIVE…
the Red Chokeberry… The name “chokeberry” comes from the astringency of the fruits, which create the sensation of making one’s mouth pucker.

The huggable… NOPE… White Blooming Hardy Orange…
those are some serious thorns…

or even better… this NATIVE azalea… the Flame Azalea…
the yellow is very striking… also comes in orange or red…

Back to grandmas with another plant from the old fashioned garden…
the Common Lilac…

More Purple… BUT DO NOT PLANT THIS ONE…
Chinese Wisteria… very invasive…

Rounding out the purple of this week is a delicate NATIVE gem…
Dwarf Crested Iris... I love this plant…
The team planted more today for a client…

Here is a towering NATIVE shrub… The Blackhaw Viburnum…

and the NATIVE Trillium…  many colors… my garden has white and maroon… but they also sport flower colors of yellow, pink, and purple…

Gonna wrap this up with these stunning NATIVE Foam Flowers
what a display…

They are coming… emergence could happen at any time now… the magic begins when soil temperatures reach 64degrees… some places could see 1,000,000 per acre… that’s 25-30 per square foot… buckle up folks… this picture was snapped when the team removed some sod in Severna Park…

Mulch Madness continues…
and The GREAT GREEN WALL… 130′ of 8-10′ tall Evergreens…
The teams were busy as usual…

Mulch Mulch and more Mulch…

Here is what the client faced… a view of the golf course… he sadly suffers from Agrostistolonphobia, the fear of creeping bent grass… so Team KW was brought in to calm his fears… and the team delivered…

Of the 33 trees planted… some NATIVES were selected… and anchored the project… Eight 9-10′ Miss Helen American Hollies were selected from a field on the eastern shore… this cultivar was discovered in Anne Arundel County back in 1936… that’s a really cool fact that I just learned…

These trees were HEAVY, weighing 1500lbs…
but our Dingo made easy work of the heavy lifting…

The rest of the trees showed up…
again from our great supplier Stadler Nursery… Norway Spruce, Nellie Stevens Holly, Cryptomeria and Green Giant Arborvitaes rounded out the planting plan…

Let the planting begin… it was a team effort to get these trees in place… Luis, Brock, Martinez and Jeronimo are carefully getting the Miss Helen’s in their new home…

The Dingo to carry the trees… plywood to project the yard… and the team discussing how to work around the irrigation lines…

and the Great Green Wall is planted… what a difference…

and the parting words from the client… “It’s Like It’s Always Been There”…
this is what the team loves to hear…

Here is a special thanks to two members of Team KW, who are often working alone making sure your lawns, plants, trees & flowers are fed and healthy… Obdulio (pictured) and Dimas put in long hours to keep it all GREEN…

Team KW’s replacements… NEVER… we’ll never say never again 007….

and shit happens, just this afternoon while I was typing the newsletter… fortunately everyone was safe…
this branch just broke and fell out of the tree while the team was spreading mulch… CRAZY…

That’s this week in Team KW Land…

Thanks for taking the time to read a bit and look at some pictures… let me know your favorite one…

Team KW believes in taking care of others so they can live a fulfilled life… how ELSE can the team take care of you???

Team KW is very grateful for all of you, our faithful clients… we wouldn’t be successful without you…

Have a great weekend and keep an eye out for the protein snacks appearing from the soil…

be Positive be Grateful be Happy…
